Custom Map Questions

How long does it take to create a custom map?2021-04-22T02:22:46+00:00

That depends on how quickly you respond and how busy we are – but you can estimate 4 to 6 weeks. Every map we make is completely from scratch, we do not use templates. We will strive to complete each stage of the process as quickly as possible. A rush service may be available, please contact us to inquire.

What is the process after I purchase a custom map?2021-04-22T02:23:48+00:00

Your purchase confirmation will contain a link to the form you will use to send us the information for your map. Once you fill out your form and send it to us we will start to work on your map. We will send you a draft within 3 weeks of receipt of your form. Then we will meet with you via Zoom to go over your draft and will deliver a second draft of your map within 5 days. If you have additional changes we will deliver a third draft of your map within 3 days. If you have additional changes beyond the third draft we will commence charging our normal hourly rate and deliver additional drafts within 3 days of receipt of requested changes. All approved, final files will be delivered within 3 days of proof approval. We will strive to complete each stage of the process as quickly as possible and not take the entire estimated time.

No, you can purchase one map in the Shop. We will create that first map just how you like it, then use it as a template for the remaining maps. The remaining maps will be billed at our normal hourly rate and, because we have already figured out the style, branding, and locations, the remaining maps will each cost less than the first map.

Yes, we will create a QR code specific to your map and put it on your map if you would like. The QR code will make it easier for your guests to access your map on the HipMaps app. If you do not want a QR code on your map you can chose not to put it on there – it’s totally up to you.

  • The home button zooms to the custom map.

  • The layers button toggles the custom map on and off and the Google Map labels on and off – when the custom map is on the Google Map labels are off, and when the Google Map labels are on the custom map is off.

  • The zoom to my location button brings the view to your current location.

  • The information button brings you to the Frequently Asked Questions, About HipMaps, and other useful information.

Where are the Google Map labels?2021-06-27T03:48:59+00:00

For clarity, when the custom map is on the Google Map labels will be off. When the Google Map labels are on the custom map will be off. To toggle between the custom map and the Google Map labels simply select the layers button (the rectangles).

How do I zoom in and out?2021-06-27T03:45:20+00:00

Just like you do with Apple Maps and Google Maps, you place 2 fingers on the screen and pinch your fingers closer together to zoom in, and spread your fingers farther apart to zoom out.

How do I get directions to a place on the custom map?2021-06-27T03:46:11+00:00

At the bottom of the HipMaps app, select the blue ‘Click here for list and directions’. The list of places on the custom map will appear. Scroll through the list until you find the location you would like directions for. Click on the symbol with the arrow and your native maps app will open and give you directions to that location.

Why can’t I see my location on the custom map?2021-06-27T03:46:49+00:00

If you are not located in the area that the custom map covers, you will not see your location on the custom map.

If you are located inside of the area that the custom map covers and you still do not see your location, close the app completely. Re-open the app and when prompted “Allow ‘HipMaps’ to use your location?” select ‘Allow While Using App’.

If you still do not see your location, go into your device’s Settings and search for ‘Location’. Select Location Services, scroll down to see where HipMaps is listed. Click on HipMaps and select allow location access ‘While Using the App’. Return to the HipMaps app and you should now see your location.

If you still do not see your location, make sure that the app is installed on a GPS-enabled device and that you have connectivity.

How do I avoid having to enter my access code every time?2021-06-27T03:47:23+00:00

If you simply minimize the HipMaps app you will not have to enter the access code every time. If you completely close the app it will ask you for the access code when you reopen the app.

No. Only the people that you share your map with, or who scan the QR code on your printed map (if you elect to have a QR code) will be able to access your map in the app.
